Beating The Bridal Blues

Sad Pouting BrideMost couples spend weeks, months and even years planning the perfect wedding day.  With the appointments, tasting events, DIY sessions and first dance lessons, much of your life has revolved around this day.  After the fabulous event, there may suddenly be too much downtime so it makes sense that there can sometimes be a let down after the event.  Here are some post wedding tasks and ideas to help you beat the wedding blues.
Send wedding announcements. Keep sharing the good news by sending wedding announcements to those who couldn’t make it or were kept from the guest list of your intimate event.  Place an announcement in your local paper – and be sure to buy extra copies!
Submit your wedding story.  Share your wedding photos and plans with other brides by submitting your wedding images for publication.  We’ve included some a link to make it easy for you.  theknot.com
Preserve or donate your gown. Your dress will need a professional cleaning after your wedding day.  If possible, ask someone to take it to the cleaners while you are on your honeymoon, before stains have a chance to set in.  If you are interested in keeping your gown, you should also have it preserved to maintain it’s beauty.  Many brides choose to sell their gown or donate to a charity such as Bride’s Project, which uses the proceeds to support those touched by cancer.  (

Name Change. If you will take your new husband’s last name or legally abbreviate your married name, there will be several documents that require a name change. For more information, click here.
Open presents – write thank you notes. Nothing beats the blues like presents, and thankfully you probably have some.  But these gifts do come with one big string inside those ribbons – thank you notes. Wedding etiquette states that you should send each guest a handwritten note of thanks.  You may choose to do so in a thank you card, on a postcard or in a letter.  In general, guests will expect your thank you to arrive within two months of the wedding date.  Need help with thank you note wording? Click here.
Enjoy your wedding photos. Once you have received your wedding photo gallery, spend an evening reviewing your images to include in your wedding album and to order as prints for your new home.  Make it a priority to select your wedding photos so that you have them to enjoy and share before “normal” life makes you too busy and your favorite wedding photos are doomed to be digital files forever.  Wedding albums, photos and fine art projects create wedding day memories you can hold, display, share and relive.
Put exciting plans on the calendar. A big part of your wedding day happiness is finally reaching the day that you planned for so long.  You can bring some of that same anticipation and excitement to your marriage.  Schedule dates on the calendar for a day with the girls, brunch with your combined families and nights out with your new husband.  Having something to look forward to will help you fill the time previously devoted to wedding planning.
Watch your wedding video.  When you’re feeling sentimental about your wedding day, relive it all over again.  Yourwedding video will let you replay the emotions of the day, see the happiness on your guests faces and preserve all those little details you worked so hard to get just right.
Help a friend.  As the recent bride, you now enjoy the status of the go-to-wedding-gal.  Your engaged friends will be looking to you for recommendations and ideas.  Helping your friend plan her wedding can be a fun way to share what you’ve learned (without the stress!).
Repurpose or sell wedding items.  It’s fun to keep a few wedding mementos, but you probably won’t need 300 tea light holders or 50 flower vases.  If you purchased items for your wedding day, consider selling them soon after, before wedding trends change.  Take that reclaimed money and splurge on some fun with your new husband!
